Music Is a Powerful Component of Worship
Music can awaken our senses and make our worship more meaningful. Calvary UMC is committed to music as a ministry. God wants us to use our abilities no matter how great or small.
Our Music Ministry offers many venues where people can become connected to this vibrant part of the life of the church. Whether you sing, play an instrument or just have a fondness for music, there is a place for you in our Music Ministry.

Renewal Choir
The Renewal Choir sings traditional anthems during Sunday services and supports special events and observances. Open to all ages 14 and up, the choir performs a variety of musical styles and actively participates in worship, including during Communion, Advent, Lent, and other special services. No audition is required, and new members are always welcome. Now is a great time to join as the choir looks to expand its numbers!
Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 6:00-7:00pm and Sunday mornings from 10:00-10:45am from September thru May in the Calvary Sanctuary.
Handbell Choir
The Handbell Choir welcomes participants of all skill levels, with no prior experience necessary. It offers a chance to join in making beautiful music, and all are encouraged to try it out, regardless of ability. The choir plays during services and special events, contributing to the church’s musical offerings.
Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm from January thru May and Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:00pm from September thru December in the Music Room upstairs in the Chapel.
Festival Choir
The Festival Choir is a seasonal group that sings during special Lent and Advent services, enhancing worship with hymns and choral music that reflect the themes of repentance, hope, and anticipation.
Rehearsals are announced once special services are planned.
Messiah
Tiffany meets Handel! Celebrate Pittsburgh's cherished holiday tradition with us! Sing Handel’s Messiah in the stunning Calvary United Methodist Church on the Northside, surrounded by beautiful Tiffany glass. This concert has been a near sell-out every year since 2011! There are no auditions. You don’t have to be a member of Calvary to join the Messiah Choir, so feel free to invite your friends and family to participate as well! Scores (Watkins Shaw/Novello edition) will be provided. It’s always a joyous and festive time for all!
Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm beginning the first Tuesday in October thru the concerts in December in the Calvary Sanctuary.
