Celebrate Your Love at Calvary United Methodist Church

Your wedding day is one of the most cherished moments of your life—and the setting should be just as unforgettable. At Calvary United Methodist Church, we offer a stunning, historic venue in the heart of Pittsburgh, where your ceremony can be as personal, meaningful, and beautiful as your love story.

Built in 1893, our church is a breathtaking example of 13th-century French Gothic Revival architecture. Originally commissioned by Pittsburgh’s high society, the building is a masterpiece featuring ornately carved pews, angelic stonework, vaulted oak ceilings, and over 200 stained glass windows—including three magnificent 30-foot-high Louis Comfort Tiffany windows that flood the sanctuary with radiant color. It’s a place where history, artistry, and spirituality come together to create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

We believe every couple deserves a wedding day filled with love, joy, and acceptance. Calvary is proud to open its doors to all couples, including LGBTQ+ couples, reflecting our commitment to the Christian values of compassion, inclusion, and justice.

Our Wedding Hostess and Music Director work closely with each couple to ensure every detail is thoughtfully planned and perfectly executed—so your ceremony is not only beautiful, but completely stress-free.

Let your love story begin in a space as timeless and inspiring as your commitment to each other.

Reservations & Fees

Reservation

Your wedding reservation at Calvary United Methodist Church includes a 2½-hour time block on the day of your ceremony—from arrival to departure—allowing ample time for setup, the ceremony, and photos. A one-hour rehearsal is also included, typically scheduled the day before.

To check availability and reserve your date, please contact the church office. Your chosen date and time will be secured once we receive your signed contract and payment.

We’re here to make your planning process as smooth and joyful as your big day.

Fees

The total fee for weddings at Calvary United Methodist Church is $1,800. This includes:

  • Use of the sanctuary for both your wedding and rehearsal
  • Services of our Wedding Hostess
  • A professional organist to provide beautiful ceremony music

Optional aisle candles may be added for an additional $100.

Please note: This fee does not include compensation for the clergy officiating your ceremony. That arrangement is made separately.

Additional Information

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are typically scheduled for the day before the wedding. Adjustments to this schedule can be made with the agreement of the Wedding Hostess. Please be sure to bring all items being used in the ceremony at this time, and provide a copy of the marriage license to the hostess.

Wedding Coordination

Calvary provides a Wedding Hostess to assist with both the rehearsal and the wedding ceremony. All flower deliveries, photographers, and any other vendors needing access to the church must be scheduled through the church office prior to the day of the rehearsal. Starting on the day of the rehearsal, access coordination should be directed to the Wedding Hostess.

Clergy Honorarium & Selection Information

Please note that the honorarium (payment) for clergy is not included in your contract. You may choose your own officiant, but all wedding officiants must be legally authorized to perform marriages in Pennsylvania and must be approved by our staff. We can provide you with a list of available ministers upon request. If you decide to bring your own clergy, please notify the church office as soon as possible.

Flowers and Candle Decorations

Florists may deliver flowers and supplies before the wedding, but all items must be promptly removed afterward. If you wish to donate the flowers to the church, we kindly ask that you inform the church office or hostess in advance.

Please note:

  • Decorating Guidelines: Bows and other decorations must be tied or banded to the pews—tape of any kind is not permitted.
  • Candles Included: The two large altar candelabra are included with your rental.
  • Additional Options: Pew candles are available for an additional $100 fee.
  • Permitted Candles: Unity and Memorial candles may be used.

Music

Only the appointed organist of Calvary UMC is authorized to play the organ. A baby grand piano is available for use by other musicians. Additionally, we can provide referrals for soloists, brass ensembles, string players, and other musicians. If you wish to hire your own musician, they must first be approved by our music director. Please note that recorded music is not permitted.

Photography & Video

We have minimal restrictions on photography in the Sanctuary, with the primary condition being that photos cannot be used or sold for commercial purposes. All photographs must be taken within the designated time frame. Video recording is allowed. In most cases, special lighting is not permitted.
